Test Shoot

So I was able to get with my model to do a test shoot, just to try out some ideas and to get her use to the photo shoot and practice getting into the style of the shoot. Here are a few of my favorites from the shoot. Also the dress has change from the last post, it still needs to be shortened and I'm having a layer of black tulle added on top of the dress.

Where the project is at...

So after talking with Jere DeWaters about my project, we both came to the conclusion that with all the snow we've gotten so far and how it doesn't seem to want to end, it'd be in my best interest to move the photo shoot inside. As sad as I am to let go of the woods idea it's for the best and I'm pretty excited to see if my new location will lend itself just as well to my fairytale.

My new location is a high school and/or grade school (depending on if the principals have any issues or not) I'm taking the idea to a more modern one of the girl being trapped in the school (rather than the woods) and developing the fairytale drama/adventure in a school setting. These are a few photos of the high school I'll most likely be working in.

This is the current dress...I'm not completely sold on it. I'm still out looking but since this is Maine and not prom season I'm having a hard time finding what I want. If I can't find it I'll go with this.

And this is my model, Jessica. Current high schooler a.k.a. perfect for playing one

Sadly, our schedules have not lined up right to have had our first shoot yet, but I'm pretty sure (weather permitting) it will happen this coming weekend.

"It's about..."

It's about finding one's ADVENTURE.

Senior Project Idea: Take 2

after presenting my photos in class and getting some feedback from everyone, the idea that interested me the most was when Russ threw out there mixing my portraiture with my past Grimm Brothers/Girl Stuck in the Woods projects. so here's my current new idea for senior project:

I want to do a shoot of the "Lost Girl" in the woods. Bring it up fairytale style with her in a prom/princess style dress. I've found someone to be my Lost Girl, I want the look of it to be in black and white but have her be the only thing in color (if this doesnt look right I'm fine with scraping that idea - I haven't had the chance to take any photos of her yet in this style so I'm still not sure how it'll look). I've done some research in these kinds of photos and I've been very inspired by Annie Leibovitz's Wizard of Oz photos as well as her Beauty and the Beast photos. mine will look nothing like these but they've been idea starters. some other photos I've found just looking around on the web have been:

and then pulling from my own work the ideas are coming from:

as well as a book I've made: I Live in the Woods and I Can't Get Out

any and all feedback is appreciated!! as well as tips, ideas or suggestions :)

The Art of Portrait Photography

As a senior in the Art Department at UMA, I'm required to do my senior thesis as an art show so this is my idea that I'll build off of:

The art of portrait photography has been defined many different ways.
I see it as a way to capture the subject within their surroundings.
That precise moment will forever be frozen in time.
Not just in the mind but in a way that will be revisited with perfect clarity.
